In the modern world, electricity is an integral part of our daily lives. However, this invisible force can also pose significant safety hazards if not properly managed. To address this concern, electrical safety devices have been developed, one of which is the RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker).

RCCB, often referred to as the residual current operated circuit-breaker or leakage switch, is a vital component of electrical safety systems. It works by detecting any unbalanced current, also known as residual current, in a low-voltage circuit. This unbalanced current occurs when current leaks from the live conductor to an unwanted path, such as the earth or a person, resulting in a potentially hazardous situation.

The RCCB is designed to trip the circuit and disconnect the power supply within a fraction of a second, usually 0.1 seconds, once the residual current exceeds a preset trip current value, typically 30mA. This rapid response time is crucial in minimizing the risk of electric shock, which can cause severe injury or even fatality. RCCBs are widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, where they play a crucial role in protecting people from electrical hazards. They are particularly beneficial in environments where there is a higher risk of electrical faults, such as damp or wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens.
